Overground Radio is Joaquin's weekly three-hour broadcast on Woody Radio, built on a simple, stubborn idea: radio should be made by a human being with taste, nerve, and zero interest in what tests well.
There is no genre lane here. A single night moves from Sergei Prokofiev to industrial, hardcore to French touch electro, golden age hip-hop to Afrobeat to riot grrrl to regional Mexican — no apology for the whiplash. You'll hear tracks you love. You'll hear tracks you most definitely hate. Both are the job.
The one thing not even Joaquin can control is DJ Tlalli — his daughter and resident saboteur, who periodically tricks her way behind the controls to slip in Conan Gray and Olivia Rodrigo before order is (barely) restored. Part radio show, part family coup.

Forty-four tracks kicking off with the most audacious opener possible: Enya's "Orinoco Flow" straight into Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand." The Kylie/New Order "Blue Monday" mashup earns its moment early, then actual New Order's "Age of Consent" shows up later like it's finishing the joke. Sex Bob-Omb makes a Scott Pilgrim cameo, Pulp's "Common People" anchors the back half, and The Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" takes the whole thing home.
Forty-six tracks with a Replacements gravity well early on — Westerberg solo, Bash & Pop, and Smoking Popes' "Need You Around" as a spiritual proxy. Middle dips into pure darkwave (Boy Harsher, Soft Kill, Twin Tribes, Sisters of Mercy back-to-back). Then Type O Negative bleeds into Urge Overkill's Pulp Fiction cut, Weezer's "Tired of Sex," and Smashing Pumpkins' "1979" — before Vicente Fernández's "El Rey" walks in and closes it out like nothing else could.
World Cup 2026 continues — Team USA vs Turkey in a heart-attack of a match, ending 3-2 to Turkey. Close, brutal, and full-anxiety-mode from start to finish. Forty-eight tracks stretch from Garbage's "#1 Crush" opener through Sonic Youth, Deftones, and Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" as the closer. Placebo's "The Bitter End" captures the aftertaste, and They Might Be Giants' "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" feels less like a coincidence and more like foreshadowing.
World Cup 2026 special edition — broadcast alongside Mexico dispatching South Korea. VAMOS EL TRI! New Order's "World in Motion" and White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" both get their proper soccer-anthem due, and The Wookies bring in the Mexican rock representation. Forty-seven tracks stretch from Enigma's trance opener through Iceage, Björk, and Jane's Addiction to a closing Eurythmics-into-Prince run.
Three hours, 45 tracks, with the wife joining mid-broadcast for the good half. Biggie and Tribe open the night, an industrial stretch in the middle (Godflesh, Youth Code, Front 242, Boy Harsher), Johnny Cash's "Personal Jesus" cover slides in alongside the original, and Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" closes it out — yes, the full Exorcist theme — drifting the show into ambient prog territory you wouldn't see coming.
Forty-five tracks, three hours, zero apologies. Smashing Pumpkins drifting into D.R.I. into Anthrax-meets-Chuck-D thrash, a Beastie Boys double-shot, Goodbye Horses for the goths, a Refused / Coalesce hardcore bridge, and Hedwig closing the night with a wig in a box. Hum's "Step Into You" sneaks in near the end and quietly steals the show.
Fifty-one tracks across three hours, with one hostile takeover. DJ Tlalli knocked Joaquin out cold mid-show to slip Chappell Roan, Conan Gray, and Olivia Rodrigo into the mix before order was (barely) restored. Otherwise: Rob Base into Pearl Jam into Kraftwerk into Bikini Kill into Doves. Standard.
Two-hour special edition. The Corporate Machine tried to move the time slot — we just doubled down and did an earlier 2 hour show. Adapt, Evolve and Overcome! From Cap'n Jazz to The Knife to Tom Waits closing it out at four sheets to the wind.
